Meet the midwives

Traci Santangelo

MSN, APRN, CNM · Clinical Director
“Birth belongs to women, not to doctors, not to midwives and not to insurance companies.”

Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University and started my career working in a local Labor & Delivery unit. I then married a Yankee (don’t hold it against me), and he moved me to Detroit, then Miami, and finally Chicago — all for his exciting career.

It was at the University of Illinois at Chicago that I received my Master’s in Nursing with a Midwifery designation and developed a deep desire to move back to the Lone Star State. I was tired of being cold! During that time away, I had two children (who have my heart completely), worked in some incredible hospitals as a Labor Nurse, and really developed a desire to serve women.

Birth has always been my passion. I love every part of it! From the first positive pregnancy test, to watching a mother hear her baby’s heartbeat for the first time, to hearing that same baby cry at birth — I find all of it exciting and am in constant awe of how perfectly we are made to carry and birth a baby.

I never tire of a woman’s need to feel validated, heard, and respected. You deserve that — you are a woman, for goodness’ sake! It is my great pleasure to serve women such as yourself at this time in your life, and I would be honored for the opportunity.

Theresa Stryk

MSN, APRN, CNM
“My favorite part about being a midwife is getting the opportunity to educate women and help them make informed choices.”

Theresa grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. She moved to Texas to pursue her Biology degree at the University of Dallas, where she also played volleyball. She received her BSN from Texas Woman’s University and worked in Labor & Delivery at Parkland before getting her Master’s in Nursing from Texas Tech University and becoming a CNM.

She is married to her wonderful husband, Logan, and they have three daughters: Julie, Helen and Clara.

Theresa has had the privilege of previously working in a NaProTechnology office, where she gained valuable insights into the remarkable benefits of Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FABMs) for so many women. At BirthPointe, she is dedicated to continuing her mission of educating others about FABMs, promoting awareness, and supporting women in making informed choices about their fertility.

What do you normally eat for breakfast? Whatever the kids are having — bagels, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc.!

Peri Burns

DNP, APRN, CNM

Peri Burns grew up in Dallas, Texas. While attending Ursuline Academy of Dallas, she never pictured herself in healthcare but had a desire to serve others and protect the dignity of human life. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse for 9 years, several of those years alongside Dr. Fanous.

After caring for women in the highs and lows of labor and delivery, she desired to expand her scope of practice to walk with women seeking support in their ability to carry life. As part of her doctoral studies, she partnered with classmates to develop a Fertility Awareness Method education program for pregnancy resource centers in DFW. She is passionate about helping women understand and regulate their cycle in any season of life.

Outside of work, Peri enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Rosie and Phoebe, who have matching tuxedos. She loves spending time with her community, cooking, crafting, and hiking.

Raeley Hackett

Birth Assistant

Hi, my name is Raeley Hackett. I am currently finishing up my primary births to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).

I married my high school sweetheart in March 2024 and we have a silver lab named Skye. We love to go on long walks and coffee dates, trying new coffee shops as often as we can.

I love working at BirthPointe because our clients always feel like family. I love getting to know the whole family and watching them grow baby by baby. I hope to continue to grow in my midwifery skills alongside the BirthPointe team.

Lindsay Laubacher

Birth Assistant

I left my career as a behavior analyst in 2018 to become a certified doula and childbirth educator, and had the privilege of supporting over 200 families in their very special birth and postpartum seasons. After my own experience with out-of-hospital birth in 2023, I was thrilled to add Birth Assistant to my repertoire.

I love that every birth story is unique, and working alongside the BirthPointe team feels like an extension of my own family.

When I’m not geeking out over all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum, or embracing the chaos of large family life, I love drinking hot coffee (God bless the inventor of the Ember mug) in cold weather (Canadian roots) while reading books of all varieties — especially mysteries.

Amirah Hammacher

Student Midwife

Amirah Hammacher is a dedicated Phase Two student midwife hailing from Austin, Texas. She is currently enrolled in the Direct-Entry Midwifery Program at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. Now residing in Dallas, Amirah is a proud member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has earned a spot on the Dean’s List with a 3.8 GPA.

Driven by a lifelong passion for caring for infants and supporting families during childbirth, Amirah brings strong communication skills, an eagerness to learn, an open mind, and unwavering dedication. She is committed to providing compassionate, client-centered care.

Outside of her academic and clinical work, Amirah enjoys traveling, spending quality time with family and friends, and creating memories with her two beloved fur babies.

Sarah Larsen

LM, CPM

I am a homebirth midwife serving DFW. I grew up right here in Irving, Texas! I have been married for 30 years to my high school sweetheart. We have 4 amazing kids and 2 grandchildren. My dream to be a midwife began with my own home births: I had 3 babies at home with midwives.

I am passionate about all things birth — from early excitement and anticipation, to watching bellies grow, to witnessing the joyful faces of new parents seeing their baby for the very first time!

I believe it is a joy and privilege to serve women in their journey to birth with midwifery care. Along that journey, I value holistic respectful care, education, shared decision making and informed consent. In my free time, I love reading, visiting unique coffee shops, and spending time with family, camping, hiking, and kayaking.

Janessa Statland

Team Coordinator

My name is Janessa Statland. I am the team coordinator who will welcome you with a friendly smile and ensure your experience is seamless and stress-free. I manage scheduling, payment collections, client communication, and lab orders with precision and care. I joined the BirthPointe team in January 2024.

I made a leap of faith and changed my career path after being a restaurant manager for over 11 years. Seeing how much the BirthPointe midwives impact families and help women assures me that I made the right decision.

My passion has always been helping people — what better way than helping families grow at BirthPointe? I have two amazing dogs, Hagrid & Lily, and I am married to my favorite person in the world, Sean. I’m a big movie buff, a little nerdy when it comes to Lego, and I love nature. I’d love it if you stopped by to say hi!

Airriaunté Mercer

Team Coordinator

Hey! My name is Airriaunté, and I am excited to be on the BirthPointe team.

Throughout my career, I have had the great opportunity to serve youth through faith formation, teaching, and nannying, as well as adults in recovery. I have learned so much about our humanity in these places, and it has all formed me greatly.

As I have spent time focusing on what brings the most joy and where I see the most impact, I’ve found it is in stewarding our lives and health well. That is what brought me to BirthPointe. Outside of work, I enjoy baking — rosemary olive oil cake has been my favorite lately — reading, a good cup of coffee, being with my community, and simply being out in nature. I cannot wait to meet you!

June Bernays

Team Coordinator

Hello! My name is June, and I am the Coordinator for the Team Legacy. My love for babies and families started at a young age, probably due to being from a big family! That love led me to study Human Development and Family Science at UNT. I worked in a Montessori school, an educational preschool, and as a nanny.

I transitioned to working with adults with Autism for a few years. This was a stretch for me but ultimately still within my passion for supporting families. When my family and friends began having babies, I saw the gap in the care they were receiving, which led me to become certified as a Birth and Postpartum Doula.

I am thrilled to continue my love for working with families here at BirthPointe! When I’m not working, you’ll find me dabbling in crafts, reading, and being outside. My favorite time is spent with my husband, a good book and lots of sweet tea.

Come see where miracles are born.
